Where the Land Meets the Sea!

Kitakyushu is a city in Japan, way up north on an island called Kyushu. It's like a special gateway, sitting right where two big islands, Kyushu and Honshu, almost touch! A busy waterway called the Kanmon Straits separates them. It's so close, you can see the other city across the water! This spot makes Kitakyushu a super important place for boats and travel.

From Old Towns to a Big City!

Kitakyushu wasn't always one big city. A long, long time ago, it was made up of smaller towns, with a very old town called Kokura at its heart. Then, in 1963, all these towns decided to join together and become one giant city! Its name even means 'North Kyushu' to show where it is. It's like when your classroom joins with another classroom to make a bigger class!

Making Amazing Stuff!

This city is famous for making things! It has a super old steel factory called Yahata Steel Works. This factory is so important and historic that it's now a special UNESCO World Heritage Site. Imagine a place so cool it gets a world award! This factory helped Kitakyushu grow into a big industrial city, buzzing with activity.

Lots of People and Lots to Do!

Kitakyushu is a really big city, with almost a million people living there! That's like filling up your whole school, then your whole town, and then lots more! It's the second-biggest city on the island of Kyushu. With so many people, the city is always busy with lots of jobs, especially in making things and helping other places connect.
