Karnak: Egypt's Giant Temple City!

Karnak is like a super-duper ancient city in Egypt, but instead of houses, it's filled with HUGE temples and buildings. It's not just one temple, but a whole collection of them all connected. People started building here a super long time ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born!

It was the most special place for worshipping ancient Egyptian gods, especially the big boss god, Amun.

Think of Karnak like a LEGO castle that people kept adding to for thousands of years! The building started way, way back, even before the time of the famous pharaohs. More and more temples and statues were added over a very, very long time, with most of the buildings you can see today being built during the New Kingdom.

It’s amazing to think how many people worked to make this giant place so grand!

It's so important that it's now a UNESCO World Heritage site, which means the whole world agrees it's a treasure to protect and learn from.

Karnak is located near a modern city called Luxor in Egypt. It's not a city where people live today, but a place filled with amazing stone structures. The ancient Egyptians believed it was the best place to be to honor their gods. It’s a place that tells us so much about how people lived and what they believed thousands of years ago.
