Key Facts
Meet Juliane, Jungle Explorer!
Juliane Koepcke is a super brave scientist who studies animals, especially bats! She was born in Germany but grew up in Peru, a country with a huge, amazing rainforest. Her parents were also scientists who loved exploring and learning about nature. Juliane loved the jungle so much, she felt like it was her second home. She learned all about the plants and animals that lived there.
A Sky-High Adventure!
One day, when Juliane was only 17, she was flying on an airplane over the Amazon rainforest. Suddenly, BAM! Lightning struck the plane! The plane broke apart, and Juliane fell out of the sky, still strapped to her seat! She fell for a super long time, about as high as 100 school buses stacked up! When she landed, she was all alone in the giant jungle.
11 Days of Jungle Survival!
Even though she was hurt, Juliane was incredibly brave. She walked through the thick jungle for 11 whole days! She used what she knew about the rainforest to find food and water. She even used a special trick her dad taught her to help her wounds heal. Finally, she found a small camp where people were working, and they helped her get back to safety. It was like a real-life adventure movie!
Juliane's Superpower: Knowing Nature!
Juliane's survival is amazing because she knew so much about the rainforest. She knew which plants were safe to eat and how to avoid dangerous animals. This knowledge, learned from her scientist parents, was like a superpower that helped her stay alive. Now, she's a scientist herself, teaching others about the amazing creatures of the Amazon and why we need to protect them.
