Key Facts
Who Was This King Guy?
Imagine having a super famous older brother who was an emperor! That was Jérôme Bonaparte. He was the youngest brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, the famous French leader.
Jérôme got to be a king for a little while, ruling a place called Westphalia. He even got to wear a crown and live in a palace! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1784, and lived until 1860.
He was quite a character in his family's amazing story.
King of a Make-Believe Land?
Jérôme became King of Westphalia, which was like being the boss of a country. But it wasn't his country to begin with; Napoleon put him there! He ruled from 1807 to 1813.
That's about the same amount of time as you might be in elementary school! He had to make rules and manage money, but sometimes he spent too much, like a kid with too much candy. His dad and brothers sometimes had to help him out.
Did He Do Cool Stuff?
Jérôme tried to be a good leader, and some people thought he was pretty good at managing things and even fighting battles. But other times, he made big mistakes. Once, he was supposed to help his brother Napoleon in a huge war in Russia, but he didn't show up when he was needed. This caused a lot of problems! He also loved spending money, which sometimes got him into trouble.
The Last Bonaparte Standing!
Jérôme was special because he was the only one of Napoleon's brothers and sisters who lived long enough to see his nephew become president of France. This was like his family getting back in charge after a long time! He even got to be a Marshal, which is a very important military job, and the President of the Senate, which is like being the leader of a big meeting.
He saw his family's story come full circle.
