Jerome: A Town Built on Rocks!

Jerome is a special town in Arizona, a state in the United States. It's famous because it's built on the side of a very steep hill called Cleopatra Hill. It's so steep that sometimes it looks like the houses are tumbling down!

This town used to be a busy place where people dug for precious metals like copper, gold, and silver. Now, it's a fun place for visitors to explore old buildings and enjoy amazing views.

This town wasn't always called Jerome. It got its name from a man named Eugene Jerome. He was a businessman who helped start a company that dug for copper in the area. He thought the town should be named after him! So, in 1895, the town officially became Jerome. Before that, it had different names because different groups of people lived and worked there, digging for treasures in the earth.

For many years, Jerome was a booming mining town. People dug deep into the hill, looking for copper. This was hard work!

The mines went very, very deep, and sometimes the ground would shake. In fact, the town actually slid down the hill a little bit because of the mining! Imagine your house moving!

This happened a few times, and people had to move their buildings. It's amazing that so many buildings are still standing today.

Even though people don't mine there anymore, Jerome is still a very special place. It's now a popular spot for tourists who love history and art. You can walk through the old streets, visit art galleries, and eat in cool restaurants.

The views from the hill are incredible, letting you see for miles and miles. It's like stepping back in time to see what life was like when it was a busy mining town.
