The Longest Road Trip Ever!

Interstate 5, or I-5 for short, is like a giant snake stretching from the sunny border of Mexico all the way to the chilly border of Canada. It's the main road on the West Coast of the United States. It zips through California, Oregon, and Washington, passing by big cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle.

It's the only highway that touches both countries, making it super important for travel and getting things from one place to another!

From Old Trails to New Highways!

A super long time ago, before I-5 was built, people traveled on smaller roads. One famous old road was called the Pacific Highway, built way back in the early 1900s. Later, it became part of another road called U.S.

Route 99. Then, in 1956, they started building the amazing Interstate Highway System, and I-5 was born! It mostly followed the path of the old U.S.

Route 99, but they made it bigger and better, like turning a small path into a giant highway for cars and trucks.

What's Happening on I-5?

I-5 is super busy! Lots of people drive on it every day to go to school, work, or visit friends. Trucks also use it to carry all sorts of things, like food, toys, and clothes, from one city to another. It's like the main artery of the West Coast, pumping life and goods all around. Imagine how many cars are on it at once – it’s like a never-ending parade of vehicles!

Fun Facts About I-5!

Did you know I-5 is the only highway that goes from Mexico all the way to Canada without you having to get off and switch roads? It's also the main way to get to popular places like Disneyland in California and the Space Needle in Seattle. When it crosses into Mexico, it becomes a Mexican road called Fed. 1, and when it crosses into Canada, it becomes a Canadian road called BC 99.

It's a super connector!
