Key Facts
Meet the Giant Airport!
Incheon International Airport is like a huge playground for airplanes! It's the main airport for Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. Think of it as the biggest train station, but for planes that fly all over the world. It's so big that it's one of the busiest airports anywhere! It opened a long time ago, in 2001, to help more planes fly safely and quickly.
Where Do All the Planes Go?
This amazing airport is built on land that was made by people! It sits on islands that used to be separated by shallow water. Workers filled in the water to connect the islands, making a giant space for the airport. It has tons of doors, called gates, where planes park. There are 111 gates in total, spread across different buildings so many planes can be there at once!
Why Incheon is Super Important!
This airport is like a super-connector for the world! It was built so that lots of people and things could travel by plane in the 21st century. It's a special 'hub' airport in Northeast Asia, which means planes from many different places stop here. This helps people visit new countries and helps businesses send important things all around the globe.
How This Airport Got Made!
Before Incheon Airport, there was another airport called Gimpo. But as more people started flying, Gimpo got too crowded! So, they decided to build a brand new, super-modern airport. They chose a spot on islands and built it up, making a huge, flat area perfect for runways and buildings. It was a massive project to get it ready for all the planes!
