Iguana

Imagine a lizard that can be as long as a big school bus! That's an iguana! These amazing reptiles have long tails, spiky crests down their backs, and can be found in warm, sunny places. They are super good at climbing trees and swimming. Iguanas are like nature's little dragons, but don't worry, they are mostly gentle giants who love to eat plants!

Iguanas call the tropical parts of Mexico, Central America, South America, and islands in the Caribbean their home. They love places that are warm and have lots of trees to climb and sun to soak up. You might even find them near water, as they are excellent swimmers! Some iguanas have traveled to new places too, like islands far away, and are now living there.

Did you know iguanas are vegetarians? That means they only eat plants! They love munching on leaves, flowers, and fruits. Their strong jaws help them chew up tough plant bits. This plant-eating diet is super important for keeping their jungle homes healthy. They help spread seeds by eating fruits, which is like being a gardener for the forest!

Iguanas have a special flap of skin under their chin called a dewlap, which they can puff out to look bigger when they want to scare away other animals or impress a friend. They also have a special 'third eye' on top of their head that can sense light and help them know when a predator is above them. How cool is that for staying safe?
