Key Facts
Once Upon a Time in Vietnam!
A super, super long time ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born, there was a kingdom in what is now Vietnam called Văn Lang. It was ruled by a special family for a really, really long time. This time is called the Hồng Bàng dynasty.
It started way back in 2879 BC, which is so long ago it's hard to even imagine! The kings were called Hùng Kings, and they were in charge of everything.
Where Was This Kingdom?
The Hồng Bàng kingdom was in a place called Văn Lang. The capital city was called Phong Châu, and it's in a part of Vietnam that still exists today! The kingdom was pretty big. It stretched out to the west, north, east, and south. Imagine a kingdom that was bigger than many playgrounds put together, and it lasted for thousands of years!
Who Were the Big Bosses?
The most important people were the Hùng Kings. They were like the ultimate rulers of Văn Lang. The first king was named Kinh Dương Vương. He started the whole dynasty! These kings were in charge of the land and everything in it. They made the rules and led the kingdom for many, many years, passing the crown down through their family.
How Did It All End?
The Hồng Bàng dynasty was super long-lasting, but like all things, it eventually came to an end. This happened in 258 BC. Another leader named An Dương Vương came along and took over the kingdom. So, after ruling for thousands of years, the Hồng Bàng dynasty finished, and a new chapter in Vietnamese history began.
