Heron Island (Queensland)

Imagine an island so full of birds, it's like a giant feathered party! Heron Island is a special place in Australia where over 200,000 birds come to visit during the summer. That's more birds than kids in a super-duper big school!

You might see Noddy Terns and Mutton Birds flying around. The island is also surrounded by a colorful coral reef, which is like an underwater city for fish. It's a busy, happy place for animals!

Heron Island is not a very big island. It's only about as long as 8 football fields put together! The highest spot on the island is only as tall as a small slide at the playground. But don't let its size fool you. This little island is part of the HUGE Great Barrier Reef, one of the biggest living things on Earth.
