Key Facts
Meet the Idea Explorer!
Henry George was a super smart man who lived a long time ago, from 1839 to 1897. He was like a detective for how people and money worked together. He wrote books and gave speeches that got lots of people thinking about fairness.
His big idea was that the land and everything natural on it, like trees and rivers, should belong to everyone, not just a few rich people. He believed this would make the world a much better place for all of us.
His Famous Book Adventure!
Henry George wrote a book called 'Progress and Poverty' that became super famous, like a bestseller today! Millions of copies were sold all over the world. In it, he wondered why, even when things got better and people invented new stuff, some people were still poor.
He thought it wasn't fair. He wanted to find a way to make sure everyone had a chance to do well, no matter where they lived or how much money their family had.
A Fair Share for All!
Henry George had a brilliant idea for making things fairer. He thought that if people owned the houses they built or the businesses they started, that was their own hard work, and they should keep it. But, he said, the land itself, like parks or farms, should be shared.
He suggested a special tax on the value of land that would go to everyone. This way, the natural gifts of the Earth would benefit all of society, not just a few landowners.
Why His Ideas Still Matter!
Even though Henry George lived over a hundred years ago, his ideas are still talked about today! People still think about how to make sure everyone has a fair chance. His ideas helped start movements to make communities better and fairer for everyone. He showed that one person with a big idea can make a lot of people think and want to create a more just world for all.
