Key Facts
Where is Gyeongju?
Gyeongju is a city in South Korea, way down in the southeast corner. It's like a special spot on the coast, near the big blue sea. It's a bit far from the capital city, Seoul, but it's close to other towns like Daegu. The land around Gyeongju has lots of small, rolling hills, like giant green bumps on the ground. It's a beautiful place with mountains and the sea nearby!
A Royal City from Long Ago!
A super long time ago, Gyeongju was the most important city in the whole kingdom of Silla. It was the capital for almost 1,000 years! That's longer than your great-great-great-great-grandparents have been alive! Back then, it was called Seorabeol and it was one of the biggest cities in the whole world. Imagine millions of people living there!
A Museum Without Walls!
Gyeongju is like a giant outdoor museum! It has so many old things from when it was the Silla kingdom's capital. There are amazing temples, special caves with statues, and old villages. Some of these places are so special they are called World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. It's like finding hidden treasures everywhere you look!
What Do People Do There?
Today, Gyeongju is a popular place for people to visit and learn about history. Many people work in jobs that help tourists, like in hotels or restaurants. They also make things in factories because Gyeongju is near other busy cities. The city is connected by roads and trains, making it easy for people to travel and for businesses to send their goods.
