Gulf of Bothnia

The Gulf of Bothnia is like a super long, skinny lake that’s part of a bigger sea called the Baltic Sea. It’s tucked between the west coast of Finland and the northeast coast of Sweden. Think of it as a watery hug connecting these two countries! It’s the northernmost part of the Baltic Sea, meaning it’s way up north, so it can get pretty cold and even freeze over in the winter!

This gulf is divided into three parts: the Bothnian Bay, the Kvarken, and the Bothnian Sea. It’s not super deep, more like a big, shallow puddle compared to the ocean. Because it’s so far north, the weather can be chilly!

In the summer, it’s nice for swimming, but in the winter, ice can cover the water, making it look like a giant ice rink. Sometimes, islands pop up along the coast, especially near Åland.
