George V

Imagine being born a prince, but not the one who would become king! That was Prince George. He was born a long, long time ago, when his grandma, Queen Victoria, was in charge. George loved boats and joined the navy, sailing the seas. But then, something surprising happened, and he became next in line to be king. He got married and had six children, just like in a fairy tale!

When George became king, his country was like a giant playground that stretched all around the world! It was called the British Empire. He was also the Emperor of India. During his time as king, lots of big things happened, like a giant war called World War I. His cousins were kings of other big countries, but their countries changed a lot too.

Did you know that royal families have last names too? King George's family name was Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. But during World War I, people were a bit grumpy with Germany. So, King George decided to change their family name to something that sounded more British: Windsor! It was like giving his house a whole new paint job to make everyone feel happier.

King George V saw many new ideas pop up during his reign. People started talking about socialism and communism, and some countries wanted to be independent. He also made sure that the people's parliament, where elected people make rules, became more powerful than the lords who were born into their positions. This was a big deal for how countries were run!
