Key Facts
Where is London?
Imagine a giant playground in the southeastern part of a big island called Great Britain. That's where London is! It's the capital city of the United Kingdom, which is like the boss city. London is also a port, which means big boats can sail right into it on a long, wiggly river called the Thames. This river is super important because it helped the city grow big and strong!
How Big is London?
London is HUGE! It's so big that it's the largest city in the United Kingdom. If you could lay London out flat, it would cover an area about the size of 225 football fields! Lots and lots of people live here, more than 8 million! That's like filling up every seat in a giant stadium over 100 times. It's a very busy place with people from all over the world.
The Amazing River Thames
The River Thames is like London's best friend. It flows right through the middle of the city. A long, long time ago, London started on the north side of the river.
For many years, there was only one bridge, called London Bridge, to cross the river! When more bridges were built, the city could spread out like butter on toast, growing in every direction because the land around it is mostly flat and easy to build on.
What Do Londoners Do?
People in London love to explore! They visit famous places like the Tower of London or ride the big Ferris wheel, the London Eye. Many people work in offices, shops, or even help run the port by the river. They speak English, but you can hear lots of different languages too because so many people come from different countries. It's a city buzzing with energy and fun!
