Where is Austria?

Austria is a country in Europe, like a puzzle piece in the middle! It has tall mountains called the Alps, perfect for skiing and seeing amazing views. It also has beautiful rivers that flow through green valleys. The weather can be cold in the winter, great for snow, and warm in the summer for playing outside. It's a place with lots of nature to explore!

A New Start After a Big Fight

After a huge war called World War I, Austria had to start over. It was like cleaning up a big mess and building something new. This new beginning was called the First Austrian Republic. It officially started in 1919, after a special paper called the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye was signed. This was a time of big changes for the country and its people.

Who Lived There?

Lots of people lived in the First Austrian Republic. They spoke German, which is a language many people in Europe speak. They had their own way of life, with traditions and celebrations. Imagine a big family gathering for a holiday, but it’s a whole country! They worked hard, went to school, and lived in towns and cities, just like you do.

Making the Rules

To be a republic, Austria needed rules, like a game needs rules! They wrote a constitution, which is like a special rulebook for the country. This rulebook was made in 1920 and later updated. It helped everyone understand how the government should work and what rights people had. It was important for keeping things fair and organized.
