The King Under the Parking Lot!
Key Facts
Where Did the King Sleep?
A long, long time ago, a king named Richard III was buried in a church called Greyfriars in a city called Leicester, in England. But then, the church was knocked down, and everyone forgot where he was! For hundreds of years, people thought he might have been thrown into a river. It’s like losing your favorite toy and then finding it years later in a completely unexpected place!
Digging for a King!
In 2012, some clever people started looking for King Richard's lost grave. They dug in a car park where the old church used to be. And guess what? They found bones! These bones belonged to a man who was about 30 years old and had a very curved back, just like stories said King Richard did. It was like finding a treasure map that led to a real king!
Is It REALLY Richard?
Scientists did lots of tests to be super sure. They looked at the bones and even compared the tiny bits of DNA inside them to people who were related to Richard's sister. It was like solving a giant puzzle! All the clues pointed to one amazing answer: these were the bones of King Richard III. It’s a WOW fact that they found him after so many years!
A Royal New Home
After finding him, it was decided that King Richard deserved a proper burial. So, after being hidden for over 500 years, his bones were carefully placed in a beautiful new tomb at Leicester Cathedral. It was a very special ceremony, like a grand parade for a king who had been lost for so long. Now, everyone can visit and remember him.
