Key Facts
Where the Church Family Lives!
The Evangelical Church in Germany is like a big family of churches spread all over Germany, a country in Europe. Think of Germany as a big playground where these churches have their homes. They are found in cities and towns, big and small, making sure everyone can find a place to gather. It's a very important part of what makes Germany, Germany!
A Long, Long Time Ago...
This church family didn't just pop up yesterday! It started forming a long, long time ago, even before your grandparents were born. People wanted to join their church groups together. Sometimes leaders tried to make them all one big church, but it was tricky. After a big war, they decided to create this special team of churches to work together for good.
Who's Part of the Team?
Lots and lots of people are part of this church family! Almost 18 million people, which is more than the number of kids in all the schools in Germany combined! They call themselves Protestants. Many of them feel like they are Lutherans, which is a special way of practicing their faith. It's one of the biggest Protestant groups in the whole world!
How They Work Together
Even though each church is a little different, they all agree to be friends and share important things, like special meals and messages. They have meetings to decide things together. Their main office is in a city called Hanover, which is like their team headquarters. It’s a place where they plan and make sure everything runs smoothly for everyone.
