Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle sits on a big, bumpy rock called Castle Rock. It’s like the rock is a giant’s pillow, and the castle is its crown! This rock is super old, and people have lived there for a very, very long time, even before knights and kings wore armor. The castle itself is ancient, with parts built when people wore long dresses and tunics.

For many years, this castle was a royal home for kings and queens. They lived in fancy rooms and held important parties. But later, it became a place for soldiers to live and guard the land. It was like a busy town with houses, a place to make money (a mint!), and even a jail. It’s seen so many battles and exciting events!

Did you know Edinburgh Castle might be the most attacked castle in Great Britain? It’s been in over 26 sieges, which means people tried to capture it again and again! Some of the old buildings were even blown up by cannons. But some parts are still super old, like a tiny chapel that’s the oldest building in the whole city!

Inside the castle are the Honours of Scotland, which are like the country’s sparkly crown jewels! They are very old and were used for special ceremonies. The castle is also home to museums that tell stories about Scotland’s brave soldiers. Lots of people visit every year to see all these amazing things.
