Defensive Walls: Super Strong City Shields!

Defensive walls are like super-tall, super-thick fences built around towns and cities a long, long time ago. They were made of stone, mud, or bricks, and they were so big they could stop armies from getting in! Think of them as the city's bodyguard, always standing guard to keep people safe inside. These walls helped protect homes, families, and all the important things people had.

People started building defensive walls thousands of years ago. Ancient cities like Jericho had some of the oldest walls, built when people were just starting to live together in big groups. Later, huge empires built massive walls, like the Great Wall of China, which is so long it could stretch across many countries!

These walls were built by lots of people working together, sometimes taking many years to finish.

These walls were like a giant safety net for cities. If enemies came to attack, the walls made it really hard for them to get in. People inside the walls felt much safer. The walls also helped show how strong and important a city was. Sometimes, they were so tall and strong that enemies would just give up and go away without even fighting!

Defensive walls had cool features to help protect the city. They were often very tall, so enemies couldn't climb over easily. Some walls had towers where soldiers could stand and watch for danger, or shoot arrows from.

Many walls also had a ditch, called a moat, filled with water in front of them, making it even harder for attackers to reach the wall. It was like a giant obstacle course for invaders!
