Council of Trent

The Council of Trent was like a really, really long meeting for the Catholic Church. It happened a super long time ago, from 1545 to 1563. That's longer than you've been alive, and even longer than your parents have been alive! It took place in a town called Trent, which is now in Italy. Think of it as a big gathering where people decided on important church ideas.

Back then, some people started new ways of practicing their religion, which made the Catholic Church want to get together and talk. They wanted to make sure everyone knew what the church believed and to explain their teachings clearly. It was like a big family meeting to make sure everyone was on the same page about important rules and stories.

During this long meeting, the leaders talked about many things. They discussed what books were part of the Bible, how to celebrate special church services, and what it meant to be a good person according to their beliefs. They also made sure to explain things that were different from what some other groups were teaching at the time.

This meeting was super important because it helped shape the Catholic Church for many, many years. It was the last time a big church meeting like this happened outside of Rome for a very long time. The decisions made there are still remembered today and helped guide how the church teaches and worships.
