Codex Amiatinus: The Giant Ancient Book!

The Codex Amiatinus is a HUGE book, like a really big coffee table book, but way older! It's a special copy of the Bible, which is a collection of important stories and teachings. This book is super old, made around the year 700.

That's more than 1,300 years ago! It's the oldest complete Bible book of its kind that we still have today. It’s so big and important, it’s like a treasure from the past!

This amazing book was made in a special place in England called Monkwearmouth-Jarrow Abbey. Imagine a busy workshop where monks carefully wrote and decorated every page. They made three of these giant Bibles, and this is the only one that survived all in one piece! It was so special that they sent it all the way to Italy as a gift for the Pope. It traveled a long way to get to where it is now!

This book is like a superhero for old texts! It’s the best-preserved copy of a very important version of the Bible called the Latin Vulgate. Think of it as the most accurate copy of a super important storybook from a long, long time ago.

It helps us understand what those ancient stories were like. It’s also the oldest Bible where all the books we expect to find are there, just like they should be!
