Climate of Japan

Key Facts
Where the Weather Plays!
Japan is a long, skinny country made of islands, kind of like a string of pearls! Because it's so long, the weather can be very different from one end to the other. The north can get super cold and snowy, like a winter wonderland. But the south is warm and sunny, perfect for beach days! It's like having two different countries in one!
Four Fun Seasons!
Most of Japan enjoys four very special seasons. Spring brings pretty cherry blossoms, summer is warm and sometimes rainy, autumn has colorful leaves, and winter is cold and snowy. This means there are always new and exciting things to see and do throughout the year. You can build snowmen one month and wear shorts the next!
Snowy North, Sunny South!
Up in the north, like on the island of Hokkaido, it's chilly enough for a humid continental climate. Think of lots of snow, perfect for skiing! But way down south, on islands like the Yaeyama Islands, it's tropical rainforest weather. It's so warm and wet, plants grow like crazy! It's like comparing a snowman to a palm tree.
Rainy Days and Sunny Rays!
Japan gets a good amount of rain, especially in the summer. This helps all the plants grow and keeps the country green and beautiful. But don't worry, there are also plenty of sunny days! The weather changes a lot, making Japan a place with many different kinds of adventures, from cozy snowy days to bright, warm ones.
