Key Facts
Where Are These Amazing Forests?
Tropical rainforests are like giant, warm, and super rainy playgrounds for plants and animals! They are found all around the middle of our Earth, near a special imaginary line called the Equator. Think of places like the Amazon in South America, the Congo in Africa, and forests in Southeast Asia.
These places get tons of rain every year, way more than you get at home, which helps everything grow big and green!
A World of Green Towers!
These forests are like a giant cake with many layers! The tallest trees reach way up high, sometimes taller than a 10-story building! Below them are smaller trees and then bushes, and finally, the forest floor.
This creates many homes for different creatures. The air is usually warm and steamy, like a greenhouse, and it rains a lot, making everything super green and lush. It's a busy, noisy place!
Who Lives in the Rainforest?
Rainforests are packed with more kinds of animals and plants than almost anywhere else! You can find colorful parrots, sneaky jaguars, tiny poison dart frogs, and amazing insects. Many animals live high up in the trees, swinging from branches or flying through the air. Some animals are as small as your thumb, while others, like jaguars, are as big as a big dog. It's a treasure chest of life!
Why Rainforests are Super Important!
These forests are like the lungs of our planet, breathing in a gas called carbon dioxide and breathing out oxygen, which we need to live! They also help control the weather and keep the Earth from getting too hot. Plus, many medicines we use come from rainforest plants. So, even though they are far away, rainforests help everyone on Earth stay healthy and happy. We need to take care of them!
