Chinese river dolphin

These special dolphins, called the Baiji, used to swim in the Yangtze River, which is like a super long, giant river in China. It's the third-longest river in the world! The Baiji loved the freshwater, which is water that isn't salty like the ocean.

They would swim and play in the muddy waters, looking for yummy fish to eat. It was their whole world, full of twists and turns and plenty of places to hide.

The Baiji dolphin was a beautiful, pale pink color, which made them stand out! They had long, skinny snouts, perfect for sniffing out fish hiding in the riverbed. Their eyes were very small, almost like tiny beads, because the water was often murky and they used other ways to find their food.

They were about as long as a school bus, and they had a special fin on their back that looked like a small wave.

Sadly, the Baiji dolphin is no longer with us. It's believed they are extinct, which means there are none left in the whole world. This happened because the river changed a lot. There were too many boats, fishing nets that accidentally caught them, and not enough fish for them to eat. It’s a very sad story because they were such unique and gentle creatures.

The Baiji dolphin was a really special animal, like a living treasure of China's rivers. They were the only kind of dolphin that lived only in freshwater rivers! Scientists are very sad they are gone because it teaches us how important it is to take care of our planet and the animals that live in it. We need to make sure all the other animals have clean homes and enough food.
