She ruled over a land with snowy forests, wide rivers, and even some mountains. The weather could be super cold in the winter, with lots of snow, and warm and sunny in the summer. Russia was a giant place, and Catherine was its empress!

From Princess to Empress!

Catherine wasn't even born in Russia! She was born a princess in a faraway German town. When she was a teenager, she traveled to Russia to marry the prince. But things didn't go as planned, and she eventually became the empress herself! She ruled for a very long time, about 34 years, which is longer than most kids are old. She made Russia bigger and stronger during her rule.

Making Russia Shine!

Catherine loved art and learning. She collected amazing paintings and built beautiful palaces, like the Winter Palace, which is so big it could hold thousands of people! She also wanted to make Russia a more modern country.

She invited smart people to live there and encouraged new ideas. She even wrote letters to famous thinkers! She was like a super-smart queen who wanted her kingdom to be the best.

Running the Show!

As empress, Catherine was the boss of Russia. She made important decisions about laws and how the country was run. She wanted to make things fair for people, but it was a complicated job. She also made sure Russia had a strong army and navy to protect its huge land. She was a very busy ruler, always thinking about how to improve her vast empire.
