Cataracts of the Nile

The Nile River is like a super long, watery road in Africa. But in some parts, it gets a little bumpy! These bumpy spots are called cataracts. They happen between two big places called Khartoum and Aswan. Instead of smooth sailing, the water splashes over lots of small rocks and even tiny islands sticking out of the river. It’s like a natural water park!

Think of a river that’s usually calm and wide. Now, imagine it suddenly gets shallow and full of rocks! That's a cataract. Sometimes the water rushes and makes foamy, bubbly rapids, like when you pour juice too fast.
