Meet the Super-Old City Builders!

Long, long ago, even before the pyramids in Egypt were built, there was a special place in Peru called Caral. The people who lived there were called the Caral–Supe civilization. They were some of the first people in the Americas to build big cities and amazing buildings. They didn't have cars or even bikes, but they were super smart builders and farmers!

What Did They Build?

The Caral–Supe people built huge pyramids out of stones and earth. Some of these pyramids were as tall as a 5-story building! They also built big plazas, which are like open squares where people could gather. They even had special places for music, with flutes made from animal bones. Imagine playing music on instruments older than your grandparents' grandparents!

Life in Caral

These ancient people were great farmers. They grew yummy foods like squash, beans, and sweet potatoes. They also fished in the nearby rivers and the ocean. They traded with other groups, sharing their food and goods. It was a busy and exciting place to live, full of people working together to build their amazing civilization.

Why We Remember Them

The Caral–Supe civilization is super important because it shows us how smart and creative people were thousands of years ago. They figured out how to build big cities and organize their lives without many of the things we have today. They are like the ancient superheroes of Peru, showing us what people can achieve!
