Meet the Giant Mountains!

The Canadian Rockies are like a super-long, bumpy spine for Canada! They are part of a much bigger mountain family that stretches all the way from Alaska down to Mexico. These mountains are made of rocky stuff like shale and limestone.

Some of the peaks are so tall, they look like they're poking the clouds! In the summer, it's green and beautiful, but in winter, they get covered in fluffy white snow, perfect for skiing and playing!

Where Did These Mountains Come From?

Long, long ago, even before dinosaurs, the Earth's crust was squished and pushed, like playdough! This squishing made huge wrinkles, and those wrinkles became the Rocky Mountains. They are super old, like your grandparents' grandparents!

Over millions of years, ice and water have carved them into the amazing shapes we see today. It's like nature's own giant sculpting project that's still happening!

Home to Cool Animals!

Lots of amazing animals call the Canadian Rockies home! You might see big, furry bears like grizzlies or black bears, and speedy deer or elk munching on plants. Eagles soar high above, looking for their next meal. In the colder parts, you might even spot a mountain goat climbing rocks like a superhero! These animals have special homes, called habitats, in the forests, meadows, and rocky cliffs.

Parks for Everyone to Enjoy!

Guess what? Many of these incredible mountains and forests are protected in special places called national and provincial parks. This means they are kept safe for everyone to enjoy, now and in the future.

Some of these parks are so special they are even part of a World Heritage Site, which is like a global award for amazing natural places. It's a great way to make sure these beautiful mountains stay wild and wonderful!
