Bratus (tree)

Long, long ago, a wise writer named Pliny the Elder wrote about a special tree called Bratus. He said it looked a bit like a cypress tree, but its branches were whitish. When this tree burned, it smelled super nice, like cedar wood! People back then thought it was really special and even had amazing powers.

This mysterious Bratus tree grew in faraway lands, beyond a river called the Pasitigris. It was found in a place called the territory of the city of Sittaca, high up on a mountain named Zagrus. It’s like finding a hidden treasure in a secret garden, far away from where we live today!

People thought the Bratus tree was amazing because its burning wood smelled so good. They also said its leaves could be sprinkled into drinks, and its smoke could fight off bad smells from other fires. It was like a natural air freshener and protector all in one!

Even though Pliny wrote about it, scientists today aren't totally sure what the Bratus tree was! Some think it might have been a type of juniper or thuja tree, which are types of evergreen trees. These trees often have wood that smells nice when it burns, just like Pliny described.
