Key Facts
Meet the Scariest Pirate Ever!
Imagine a pirate so scary, people would run away just by hearing his name! That was Blackbeard. His real name was Edward Teach, but everyone called him Blackbeard because he grew a super long, black beard.
He even tied fiery fuses into his beard to make it look like he had smoke coming out of his head! He wanted to look like a monster so enemies would be too scared to fight him. He sailed on a big ship called the Queen Anne's Revenge.
Where Did This Pirate Come From?
Blackbeard wasn't born a pirate. He was probably born in a place called Bristol, in England, a long, long time ago, maybe around 1680. He started sailing when he was young. Later, he joined pirate crews and learned how to be a pirate. He became a captain and got his own ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge. He sailed around the Caribbean Sea and the coast of North America, looking for ships to capture.
Why Was Blackbeard So Famous?
Blackbeard was famous because he was a really good pirate captain, but also super scary! He didn't usually hurt people if they gave him their treasure. He just wanted their stuff!
He was known for his big, bushy beard and the way he lit it on fire. He also had lots of guns. He once blocked a whole harbor with his ships and made people give him medicine!
He was a legend, and people still talk about him today.
The End of the Fiery Beard
Blackbeard's pirate adventures couldn't last forever. The governor of Virginia was tired of Blackbeard scaring everyone and stealing ships. So, he sent a brave man named Lieutenant Robert Maynard to catch him.
They had a big fight on an island called Ocracoke Inlet. Blackbeard fought very bravely, but he was hurt many times. Finally, he was defeated.
His reign as the most feared pirate ended in 1718, but his legend lives on!
