Meet the Panthers!

The Black Panther Party was a group that started a long time ago, in 1966. Two friends, Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton, started it in a city called Oakland, California.

They wanted to make sure that Black people in their community were treated fairly and kept safe. They wore cool black berets and jackets, which made them look very strong and united. They believed everyone deserved to be treated with respect.

Helping Hands and Watching Eyes

One of the first things the Panthers did was watch the police. They wanted to make sure the police were being fair and not hurting anyone. They also started amazing programs to help people!

They made sure kids got free breakfast before school, which was super important for many families. They also opened clinics to help people stay healthy. It was like having a big, caring family looking out for everyone.

A Big Challenge!

Not everyone liked the Black Panther Party. The government even thought they were a big problem and tried to stop them. They used sneaky ways to make things difficult for the Panthers. It was like playing a game where one side keeps changing the rules to make it harder for the other. This made it tough for the Panthers to do all the good things they wanted to do.

Why We Remember Them

Even though things got hard, the Black Panther Party showed how important it is to stand up for what's right and help your community. They taught people that they could make a difference by working together. Their idea of taking care of each other, like with the free breakfast program, is something we can all learn from.

They wanted a world where everyone was treated equally and had what they needed.
