Bill de Blasio

Imagine being the boss of a super-duper busy city like New York City! That's what Bill de Blasio did. He was the mayor from 2014 to 2021.

That's like being the principal of a school with millions and millions of kids! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1961. He had a different name when he was born, Warren Wilhelm Jr., but he chose to be called Bill de Blasio later on.

He worked hard to help the people in the city.

Before becoming mayor, Bill de Blasio did other important jobs. He was like a super-helper for the city, called the Public Advocate. He also worked on the City Council, which is like a team of people who make rules for the city.

He even worked on campaigns for famous people like Hillary Clinton! He grew up in a place called Massachusetts but came back to New York City to do his important work. He went to big universities to learn a lot!

Bill de Blasio really cared about making sure everyone in New York City had a fair chance. He said it was like a 'tale of two cities' if some people had lots of good things and others didn't. One of his biggest ideas was to make free school for all 4-year-olds, called universal pre-kindergarten.

This is like giving every kid a super-start to their learning adventure! He also wanted to help people with their feelings and make the police work better with everyone.

Guess what? Bill de Blasio even tried to become the President of the whole United States! He ran in a big race with lots of other people. It's like a giant competition to see who can be the best leader for the country. Even though he didn't win that race, he kept working hard for New York City. He's a person who likes to try new things and help people!
