Bhumibol Adulyadej

Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, was the King of Thailand for a super long time! He was king from 1946 all the way until 2016. That's 70 years! He ruled longer than any other king in Thailand's history, and even longer than many kings in other countries. He was born in America but spent his childhood in Switzerland before becoming king.

When Bhumibol became king, Thailand was changing a lot. Before, a king had all the power, but then things changed. He saw Thailand grow and become a busy place with lots of new buildings and people moving to cities. Sometimes, things were a bit bumpy, like when the economy had problems or when the army took charge for a while. But through it all, he was the king.

Many people in Thailand thought King Bhumibol was very special, almost like a superhero! They respected him a lot. He was seen as a symbol of their country. Even though he was a king, he was also known for his wealth, with his family's fortune being very large. He was even on a list of the world's richest royals!

King Bhumibol's reign was one of the longest ever for a king of an independent country. He saw so many amazing things happen in Thailand. He was a big part of the country's story for many, many years. When he passed away in 2016, people all over Thailand remembered him and his long time as their king.
