During the war, Ben's job was super important. He helped guard the coast to stop bad guys from getting through. He was a gun captain, which means he was in charge of a big cannon! Once, there were floating bombs called mines, and Ben bravely helped get rid of them. He even picked up a live bomb and threw it off the ship! Wow!
A Hero's Life After War
After the war, Ben came back home to his farm in Canada. He kept farming and selling his vegetables and fish. He was a farmer for many, many years, working hard on his land. Even though he was a hero, he lived a quiet life. But people remembered him! His funeral was the biggest ever in his town.
Remembering a Hero
Even though Ben Jackson lived a long time ago, we still remember him today! There's a road named after him, and a special marker on a trail tells his story. In 2010, people put up a headstone for his grave so everyone would know where he is. It shows that even a regular person can do amazing things!
