Benawa

The Benawa was a special kind of boat that sailed the seas a very long time ago. Think of it like a big, wooden ship that carried people and things. It came from a place called Gowa, which is now part of Indonesia. These boats were important for traveling and trading in the past, like how we use cars and planes today!

These amazing boats were first written about in a storybook called Hikayat Banjar. This book was written a super long time ago, around the year 1663! That's even before your grandparents' grandparents were born. The Benawa boats were a big part of life in Gowa, helping people explore and connect with other places.

Benawa boats were like the trucks and buses of the sea a long, long time ago. They helped people move from one island to another and carry important things like food and goods. Without these boats, it would have been much harder for people to travel and share with each other. They were super important for their communities!

Even though Benawa boats were really cool, we don't see them anymore today. They are like old toys that have been replaced by newer, different kinds of boats. The boats that look a bit like Benawas are called palari and padewakang. So, while the Benawa itself is gone, its style lived on in other boats!
