Battle of Yorktown

Long, long ago, America wanted to be its own country, not ruled by Great Britain. The American colonists, like George Washington, were fighting for freedom. The British, led by General Cornwallis, wanted to keep control. This big fight was called the Revolutionary War, and Yorktown was a super important battle in it. It was like the final round of a huge game!

In 1781, General Washington and his American soldiers, along with their French friends, surrounded General Cornwallis and his British soldiers in Yorktown, Virginia. It was like building a giant fence around them so they couldn't escape! The Americans and French had cannons that boomed like thunder, and they kept firing. The British were stuck and couldn't get help.

The main American leader was General George Washington. He was super brave and smart! The British leader was General Cornwallis, who was in a tough spot. But the French were also a big help! A French general named Rochambeau and a French admiral named de Grasse brought ships and soldiers to help trap the British. They were like superheroes joining the good guys!

After being trapped for weeks, General Cornwallis realized he couldn't win. He had to surrender! This was HUGE! It meant the Americans and their friends had won this big battle. It was like scoring the winning touchdown! This victory made the King of England realize that Great Britain couldn't win the war anymore. America was going to be free!
