Who Were These Brave Soldiers?

The Continental Army wasn't made of superheroes, but of everyday people like farmers, blacksmiths, and shopkeepers! They came together from the Thirteen Colonies, which were like 13 different neighborhoods. They decided to form an army because they wanted to be free from the King of England.

Their leader was a very important man named George Washington, who was like the captain of their team. He stayed in charge all the way through their big fight!

When Did the Fighting Start?

The Continental Army officially began on June 14, 1775. That's like a birthday for the U.S. Army!

Before they were an army, there were some big arguments and even fights, like the ones at Lexington and Concord. These were the first sparks that made everyone realize they needed to work together. So, they gathered in a big meeting place called the Second Continental Congress to make their army official and get ready for a long struggle.

Fighting for Freedom!

The Continental Army's main job was to fight against the British. The British wanted to keep ruling over the colonies, but the colonists wanted to make their own rules. It was a tough fight!

Sometimes, the Continental Army didn't have enough supplies or soldiers. But they also had help from local groups called militias. These were like neighborhood watch groups that joined in to help the main army when they could.

The End of the Big Fight

After many years of fighting, the war finally ended! A special agreement called the Treaty of Paris was signed, which meant the colonies were officially free. Most of the Continental Army went back to their homes and jobs. But a small part of the army stayed behind to guard important places, like forts. It was a huge moment in history, and the army that fought for freedom was a big part of it!
