Battle of Kulikovo

Long, long ago, a powerful group called the Golden Horde, led by a strong commander named Mamai, wanted to rule over the Russian lands. But the brave Russian people, led by their Grand Prince Dmitry, didn't want to be ruled! They decided it was time to stand up for themselves.

Prince Dmitry gathered his brave soldiers, and they marched to a place called Kulikovo Field, ready to defend their homes and families. It was a very important moment for Russia!

On a special day, September 8th, 1380, the two armies met on Kulikovo Field, which is near a big river called the Don River. It was a huge battle! Imagine thousands of soldiers clashing like a super loud thunderstorm.

Prince Dmitry was right there with his soldiers, showing them how brave he was. They fought with all their might, and after a long and hard fight, the Russian soldiers won! Prince Dmitry was so brave that after this battle, people started calling him 'Donskoy', which means 'of the Don'!
