These buildings are so big, they look like they were built by giants! The city has been around for at least 11,000 years, which is older than your grandparents' grandparents' grandparents! It's a place where history comes alive.
Builders of the Big Stones
A long time ago, when Romans ruled, they built some of the most amazing temples here. They used stones that are bigger than a school bus! Can you imagine lifting those? They built temples for gods like Jupiter and Bacchus. These temples are so tall, they would make a giraffe look small. Even today, people visit Baalbek just to see these incredible ruins.
A City of Many Names and Stories
When Alexander the Great came, he called it Heliopolis, which means 'Sun City'. Later, different groups of people lived here, like Christians and Muslims. The city has seen many changes, like earthquakes that shook the ground and even times when it was attacked. But the people always rebuilt and kept their city going. It's a place with a very, very long and exciting story.
Baalbek Today
Today, Baalbek is a popular place for people to visit and learn about history. There are festivals with music and dancing, and you can even see where the ancient builders got their giant stones. Even though the city has faced challenges, it remains a special place that shows us how people lived and built amazing things thousands of years ago.
