Astoria, Queens: A Fun Place by the River!

Astoria is a super cool neighborhood tucked away in the western part of Queens, one of the five big parts of New York City! It sits right next to a giant river called the East River. Think of it like a special spot on the edge of a big city, with water on one side and other neighborhoods nearby. It's a busy place with lots of people living and playing there.

Long, long ago, even before your grandparents were born, Astoria was a place with a fort from a war! Then, a man named William Hallet settled there with his wife. They called their little village Hallet's Cove.

Later, people wanted a very rich man named John Jacob Astor to help build more things, so they changed the name to Astoria to try and get him to invest. It was like trying to get a superhero to join your team!

Astoria is like a big party with people from all over the world! Many actors live here because it's close to places where movies and TV shows are made. Some people even call it 'Actoria'! It's also known for having lots of fruit trees, especially yummy fig trees, in people's yards. So, it's like a big fruit basket in the city!
