Where is Anbar?
Anbar is a town in the country of Iraq, which is in a part of the world called the Middle East. It's near a modern city called Fallujah. Think of it like a special spot on a map that people have known about for a very, very long time. It's so important that a whole big area, called a governorate, is named after it: Al-Anbar Governorate!
Anbar's Awesome Past!
A super long time ago, Anbar was a really busy and important place. It was around when big empires like the Romans and Persians were fighting. Even cooler, for a little while, Anbar was the capital city of a huge empire called the Abbasid Caliphate!
That's like being the most important city in the whole world for a bit. Later, a new city called Baghdad became the capital, and Anbar became less busy.
What Happened to Anbar?
Even though Anbar wasn't the capital anymore, it stayed a pretty nice town for a long time, maybe until around 900 years ago. People still lived there and it was a place for local leaders. But over time, it slowly became less and less important. Eventually, the town was left empty, and only ruins remained. It's like a forgotten treasure waiting to be discovered!

Even though the old town of Anbar isn't there anymore, its name is super famous! The whole big region around where it used to be is called Al-Anbar Governorate. This shows how important the town was a long, long time ago. It's like a famous person from history whose name we still remember today.
