Key Facts
Who Was Alonso?
Alonso de Estrada was a very important person a long, long time ago, around the year 1470. He lived in a place called Spain and then traveled to a land that is now Mexico. He was like a helper for the people in charge when the main leader, Hernán Cortés, wasn't around. He helped make sure things ran smoothly in this new land.
A Leader When No One Else Was!
Sometimes, the main leader of New Spain, Hernán Cortés, had to leave. When that happened, Alonso de Estrada stepped up! He was part of a group of three people, like a team of captains, who took turns being in charge. This happened a few times between 1524 and 1528. It was a big responsibility to help lead a whole new place!
Why Was He a Big Deal?
Alonso was important because he helped keep things organized in New Spain when it was just starting out. He was there before the very first official governor, called a viceroy, was chosen. Think of him like a substitute teacher who makes sure the class doesn't get too wild when the main teacher is out. He helped make sure the new colony was run fairly.
His Big Adventure
Alonso was born in a town in Spain called Ciudad Real. He lived a long life and passed away in 1530 in a city in Mexico called Veracruz. His life was all about helping to build and manage a new part of the world for Spain. He was a key figure in the early days of New Spain's history.
