Meet the Giant Mosque!

Imagine a super old building in a city called Cairo, Egypt. That's the Al-Hakim Mosque! It's like a giant stone house for people to pray in. It's named after a very important person called Al-Hakim, who was a leader a super long time ago. This mosque is so big and special, it's been standing for more than a thousand years. That's older than your grandparents' grandparents' grandparents!

Who Built This Big Place?

This amazing mosque wasn't built all at once. First, Al-Hakim's dad, Caliph al-Aziz, started building it in the year 990. That's a really, really long time ago! Then, Al-Hakim finished building it in 1013. So, it took many years to make it just right. It's like building a huge LEGO castle that takes a long time to finish, but this one is made of stone and is much, much bigger!

Why Is It So Special?

The Al-Hakim Mosque is special because it's a place of worship for many people. It's also a piece of history, showing us how buildings were made a thousand years ago. Over the years, it was sometimes forgotten and fell into disrepair, like a toy left outside.

But then, a group called the Dawoodi Bohras worked very hard to fix it up and make it beautiful again so people could pray there. It's like giving an old, beloved toy a brand new shine!

A Place for Prayer and Peace

Inside the Al-Hakim Mosque, people go to pray and feel peaceful. It's a place where they can connect with their beliefs. Even though it's very old, it's still used today for religious services. It stands proudly on a street called al-Mu'izz Street, near a big city gate. It's a reminder of the past and a vibrant part of the present, showing how old buildings can still be important and loved.
