Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway

This is a super-duper long train track, like a giant metal snake, that connects Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, all the way to Djibouti, a country by the sea. It’s called a standard gauge railway, which means the tracks are a special, common distance apart, like a universal connector! It’s a really important way to move things, especially for Ethiopia because it doesn't have its own coast.

This amazing train track is built to carry TONS of stuff! It can move about 24.9 million tonnes of cargo every year. That’s like moving more than 2 million school buses filled with toys!

The trains zoom along the tracks, carrying important things like food, clothes, and machines. They travel from the busy city of Addis Ababa all the way to the port in Djibouti, where ships can take the cargo to other countries around the world. It’s a busy route, helping trade happen super fast!

This train track is like a superhero for Ethiopia! Since Ethiopia is landlocked, it means it doesn't have any beaches or ports. So, this railway is like Ethiopia’s own special bridge to the ocean.

Most of Ethiopia’s trading, like sending and receiving goods, happens through Djibouti. This railway makes that journey much quicker and easier. It helps businesses grow and makes sure people can get the things they need.

This Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway is actually quite new! It was opened for everyone to use on January 1, 2018. Imagine a brand new playground opening – everyone is so excited!
