Meet the Actor Who Made a Big Mistake!

John Wilkes Booth was a famous actor in the 1800s, like a superhero on stage! He loved acting and was known by many people. But, he also had strong feelings about the country and the president, Abraham Lincoln.

Booth didn't like that President Lincoln was making big changes, like ending slavery. He thought he knew a better way for the country to be. This made him very angry and led him to make a terrible decision.

A Secret Plan Gone Wrong

Booth and his friends had a secret plan. First, they thought about kidnapping President Lincoln to help their side in a big fight called the Civil War. But then, their plan changed to something much, much worse. They decided to hurt President Lincoln, the Vice President, and another important leader. It was a very dangerous plan that would have a huge impact on everyone.

The Night at the Theater

One night, Booth went to a theater where President Lincoln was watching a play. It was like going to a movie today, but live on stage! Booth snuck into the president's special box and shot him. This was a very sad and shocking moment. President Lincoln died the next morning. Booth then jumped from the stage, breaking his leg, and ran away to hide.

Caught and the End of the Road

For twelve days, Booth was on the run, hiding from the police. They searched everywhere for him. Finally, they found him hiding in a barn. He refused to come out, so the police set the barn on fire. A soldier shot Booth, and he died a few hours later. Many of his friends who helped with the plan were caught and punished too.
