Who is King Abdullah II?
Imagine being a king! That's Abdullah II, the King of Jordan. He was born a long, long time ago, on January 30, 1962. He became king on February 7, 1999. His family, the Hashemites, have been in charge of Jordan for over 100 years! That's even longer than your grandparents have been alive. He's also said to be a direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad, which is a very special connection.
From Prince to King!
Abdullah II wasn't always going to be king! When he was a baby, his dad, King Hussein, decided his uncle would be next in line. But then, when Abdullah was older, his dad changed his mind and made Abdullah the heir.
It's like if your older sibling was going to get the biggest slice of cake, but then the grown-ups decided it should be you! He went to school in Jordan and then studied even more in other countries.
A Soldier King!
Before becoming king, Abdullah II was a brave soldier! He joined the Jordanian army in 1980. He was really good at his job and became the leader of the Special Forces.
That's like being the captain of the best playground team! He even became a Major General, which is a very high rank. He also got married to Queen Rania, and they have four children together.
Being a king is a big job, but he was ready for it!
Making Jordan Better!
When King Abdullah II became king, he wanted to make Jordan a great place. He helped the country's money grow, which is called an economic boom. It was like a super fun party for the economy!
But sometimes, things get tough, like when other countries have problems, it can affect Jordan too. He also welcomed lots of people who needed a safe place to live, like refugees from Syria. He's also known for being kind and respectful to people of different religions.
