New York City is a HUGE place, like a giant playground with millions of people! It's located in New York State, way up in the northeastern United States. Imagine a city so big it needs its own special leader, called a mayor, to help run everything. This election is all about picking that important person!

On November 4, 2025, people in New York City got to vote for who they wanted as their mayor. It was like picking the captain of your school team, but for the whole city! Many people, especially young voters, showed up to vote, making it a very busy election day.

Zohran Mamdani won the election! He's going to be the new mayor starting January 1, 2026. He's super special because he'll be the first Muslim and the first South Asian mayor, and also the youngest mayor since way back in 1892. That's older than your grandparents' grandparents!
