Imagine a giant party where athletes from almost every country in the world come to show off their amazing skills! That's the Olympics! The 2020 Summer Olympics were like a super-duper sports festival.
Athletes competed in tons of different sports, like swimming, running, and even skateboarding! It was supposed to happen in 2020, but guess what? It got a little bit delayed because of something called a pandemic.
So, it actually happened in 2021, but they still called it the Tokyo 2020 Games!
Super Sports and New Stars!
The Tokyo 2020 Games had all your favorite sports, but they also added some super exciting new ones! Have you ever heard of 3x3 basketball? It's like regular basketball but with fewer players and a faster game.
They also added skateboarding, surfing, and sport climbing for the very first time! Imagine trying to climb a wall as fast as you can, or riding a giant wave. It was awesome to see athletes from places like Bermuda and the Philippines win their very first gold medals!
A Games Like No Other!
This Olympics was super special because it was the first time ever that the Games had to be postponed because of a health problem. Also, for the first time ever, there were no cheering crowds in the stadiums! It was a little quiet without all the fans, but the athletes still gave it their all.
Because it was delayed, Tokyo 2020 is the only Olympics to ever happen in an odd-numbered year. How cool is that?
Who Won the Most Medals?
Team USA was amazing at the Tokyo 2020 Games! They won the most gold medals and the most medals overall. That means they had the most shiny gold, silver, and bronze medals. China came in second place. The host country, Japan, did super well too, winning more medals than they ever had before! It’s always exciting to see who takes home the most medals!
