1945 World Series

Key Facts
Baseball's Big Championship!
Imagine the biggest baseball game of the year! That's the World Series. In 1945, two awesome teams, the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs, played against each other. It was like the Super Bowl for baseball! The Tigers were trying to win their second championship ever, and the Cubs were hoping to break a long losing streak. This series went all the way to the very last game!
Who Were the Stars?
One of the biggest stars was Hank Greenberg, a super strong hitter for the Tigers. He had just come back from being a soldier. He hit two home runs that were like giant rockets flying out of the park!
Another star was Hal Newhouser, who was a fantastic pitcher. He helped the Tigers win two games, including the super important last one. The Cubs had Phil Cavarretta, who was great at hitting the ball too.
A Funny Story About a Goat!
There's a funny legend about a goat and the Cubs. Before one game, a fan brought his pet goat to the stadium. But the goat wasn't allowed in! The fan got mad and said the Cubs would never win the World Series again. And guess what? The Cubs hadn't won since 1908, and they didn't win again until a super, super long time later in 2016! It’s called the Curse of the Billy Goat.
The Tigers Take Home the Trophy!
After seven exciting games, the Detroit Tigers won the World Series! They beat the Chicago Cubs with a final score of 9-3 in the last game. This was a huge win for the Tigers, their second championship ever. Even though some players were still away fighting in the war, these teams played their hearts out. It was a memorable series that people still talk about today!
